The Prayer of Good Courage describes the call that God has made to all believers. This podcast explores how the Prayer of Good Courage is made real in the lives of the staff, members and friends of Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN. Prayer of Good Courage: O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us, and your love supporting us, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. Background music written and performed by Kent Gustavson from Mountain Vespers Copyright 2006

Unlike the Israelites in the desert, our gods often don't come in the form of golden idols. Watching the Olympics makes me realize I participate in a bit of hero worship. Come on Simone Biles! It’s fun, but in all seriousness, we all put all sorts of people and ideas on pedestals, and they can overshadow the unique voice of God in our lives.
In a message that launches a series on a Fresh Look at the Ten Commandments, Pastor Sarah talks about all the little g “gods” (wealth, family, health, nation, leaders etc…) that can take the place of God in giving us a sense of identity. When those are taken away, your identity can falter. But when God’s grace is at the center of who you are, then win or lose, your life is secure.
Today’s message is delivered by Pastor Sarah. The Scripture reading is from Exodus, Chapter 32 Verses 1-16, and our Gospel comes from the Book of Mark Chapter 12 Verses 28-31.
